12018 days without holes

Thursday, February 15th, 2007

A third molar.I paid a visit to my dentist today. I hadn’t received a reminder in a while, so I called her up and it turned out it’s been a little over two years (usually I go every 9-12 months).

Alas! There was a hole. Not a big one, it was patched up easily enough — but a hole nonetheless. It probably wouldn’t even have been detected if I’d come in earlier, so that’s okay. I’m just miffed my 12018-day streak finally ended, though I knew it would happen some day.

Here’s a Danish Dvorak layout

Tuesday, February 13th, 2007

My brother Jan has been hooked on the Dvorak keyboard layout for a year or two and has praised it sky-high. It seems to be smarter than the regular Qwerty keyboard layout, but it’s not being used for reasons of tradition: Qwerty has been the industry for a hundred years, who cares if it’s really impractical? Why didn’t I anticipate this?

Friday, February 2nd, 2007

As I’ve written before, I switched from my Psion to a PDA-phone. Such an all-in-one device is useful, but I had not realized one consequence of this: While I’m holding my phone to the ear, I can’t access my PDA! Try checking your calendar while on the phone… oops.

Of course, this is exactly why I have a Bluetooth headset, and when I use that, there’s no problem. Except that the PDA’s Bluetooth radio seems to be rather poor; the other party hears me through static noise much of the time. What good is a quality headset if the PDA can’t cope?
