The PalmV I wrote about lately turns out to be flawed in exactly one —essential, of course— feature: It can’t be bothered to turn itself on to say ‘ding’ when there’s an alarm due. Only when I turn it on manually, it fires off its backlog of alarms. Doh. As such it’s a nice notebook, but utterly useless as a reminder tool. Which has been clear on a number of occasions lately (sorry friends).
So I’ve been thinking of getting a new PDA (new as in used, of course).
And you know, I think I will go for another Palm instead of looking for a Psion. I love the Symbian OS, but the Revo is too fragile and the Series 5 is too big (meaning heavy). Also, since my switch away from qwerty, the keyboarded PDAs seem less attractive. On the other hand, the Palm OS isn’t too bad either. I have more or less decided on a T3 model of their Tungsten line: it’s cheaper (and trivially slower) than the T5 or TX, it’s got a metal casing, an internal microphone and vibrator, and comes with a cradle, and last but not least that ‘extra’ bit of screen (which used to be the silkscreen) can collapse under the hardbuttons, which means that even at more than double the resolution of a PalmV, it’s actually the same size in the pocket. Here’s a review, if you’re curious.
Now all I gotta do is wait for an opportunity.
